Welcome to Rensselaer Formula Hybrid!

RPI Formula Hybrid is an multi-discipline engineering project on the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute campus. Each year design and construct a formula style open-wheel race car of hybrid drive train design to compete in the Formula Hybrid competition.

Formula Hybrid Rocks

The Rensselaer Formula Hybrid Team at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is a new group of students with new ideas, eager to gain hands-on experience designing and fabricating mechanical and automotive systems. In a world where gasoline prices are rising every day, governments and industries alike are searching for answers.

Through this project, students will both explore and develop the same cutting-edge automotive technology that will be making its way into many markets in the next few years. With the backing of friends and sponsors, it is the goal of this project to hope to expand hybrid-electric vehicle technology and pave a way for a greener future for consumers and racers alike.

The Rensselaer Formula Hybrid team has already set high goals for itself, and plans on developing a vehicle far superior to the competition in both performance and technologic innovation. Our goals stem from a set of views shared by the members; that vehicles can be made that are not only more efficient and cleaner than current automobiles, but that such advancements will render an all-around superior vehicle than more traditional approaches allow.

Goals:

    1. Gain Hands-On Experience on a Group Engineering Project.
    2. Research and Further Hybrid Vehicle Technology.
    3. Win the Competition!
